FAQ
In-Person or online tuition?
Whilst Get In! Tuition offers online tuition in special cases, In-person tuition is our default.
In-person lessons allow for stronger engagement and faster progress. Students are less distracted and more accountable when working face-to-face with their tutor. Body language, real-time feedback, and hands-on resources make each session more personal and effective.
Many parents also find that their child builds confidence more quickly when they have an encouraging adult physically present.
Why are your sessions one hour long? And, can I book in half hour blocks instead?
Hour sessions offer the ideal balance between focus and fatigue.
Shorter sessions don’t allow enough time to teach, practice, and review properly. Longer sessions can lead to reduced concentration, especially for KS3 students. In 60 minutes, we can cover new material, address problem areas, and set meaningful homework without overwhelming the student.
If you have any special requests for 30-minute sessions ie to supplement an existing weekly session of 1 hour, please get in touch.
When should I begin tuition for the 11+ exam?
Balnk is a flexible website builder that allows you to create beautiful, professional websites with ease. Whether you need a personal site, a portfolio, or a business platform, we offer tools and templates that simplify the process.
Why do you recommend weekly sessions?
Consistency is key to lasting improvement. Weekly lessons keep the student in a steady learning rhythm and allow the tutor to build momentum each week.
Over a year, students don’t just learn new content, they develop better study habits, exam confidence, and long-term understanding. A year’s commitment helps turn short-term fixes into lasting results.
What’s the difference between 1-to-1 tuition and group tuition?
1-to-1 tuition is fully personalised, every minute is focused on your child’s unique needs. The tutor can adjust the pace, teaching style, and content instantly.
Group tuition (typically 2–4 students) can be a great, more affordable option for students who enjoy collaborative learning or need gentle competition. However, progress may be slower as attention is shared.
How do you measure progress?
Each student receives regular feedback and informal assessments. We review school reports, homework, and test results to track improvement. Parents are kept up to date with progress summaries and next-step goals every few weeks.
What qualifications do your tutors have?
All tutors are qualified, experienced, and DBS-checked professionals with expertise in the subjects they teach. Many have classroom experience and a proven track record of helping students reach or exceed their target grades.
What happens if my child can’t attend a session?
We understand life gets busy. We simply ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to reschedule. This keeps things fair for everyone and ensures your child doesn’t lose valuable learning time. If there is a last-minute emergency, please contact us as soon as possible.
For session cancellations, we require 72 hours’ notice (3 working days). If you cancel without giving notice, you are still required to pay for the lesson.
Please read the student/ teacher contract here.
Do you set homework?
Yes. Homework is an essential part of reinforcing what’s been learned. It’s tailored to each student and reviewed in the next lesson to make sure understanding is secure.
What are Post-11+ Booster Sessions?
Post-11+ booster sessions are designed for students who have completed the 11+ but want to continue building on their strong foundations.
These sessions extend and deepen the skills learned during 11+ preparation, particularly in reasoning, problem-solving, and advanced literacy. We focus on keeping students challenged and motivated while preparing them for the higher expectations of KS3. This ensures a smooth transition to secondary school and helps them stay ahead of their new curriculum.
Can you help us get into a specific school?
Yes, to a degree.
We have a strong understanding of the local Altrincham grammar and independent schools, including their entry requirements, exam styles, and focus areas. This allows us to create a tailored plan for your child that reflects the specific expectations of those schools – while still ensuring they develop the broad academic skills needed for long-term success.
How do I pay?
For ongoing tuition, payment will be taken on a monthly basis (pre-lesson) via bank transfer.
For one-off tuition payment can be arranged on the day.
Please read our terms and conditions here.
What subjects do you offer advanced tuition (KS2 & KS3)?
We provide advanced tuition in:
Mathematics – extending beyond 11+ level to cover early KS3 and problem-solving mastery.
English Language & Grammar – deepening understanding of structure, accuracy, and sophisticated writing.
Creative Writing & Literature – focusing on style, interpretation, and analytical skills for higher-level study.
Music Theory – helping students prepare for graded exams or support their practical music studies.
These sessions are ideal for students who enjoy academic challenge and want to maintain momentum after the 11+ or before secondary school.
